Maha Sidaoui was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1968, determined to push through the patriarchal structures of a typical Lebanese household.
A songwriter, performer & radio personality, she coasted through her 20s and 30s blissfully disinterested in processing intergenerational trauma. Maha’s curiosity to heal was welcomed through finally accepting her queerness. It was here, in her 50s where Maha pursued professional writing.
Maha’s collection of short stories, manuscripts and lyrics have been revered by the queer, cultural and feminist communities. In 2022, Maha was the recipient of the Affirm Press Mentorship Award for her submission ‘One Arabian Girl.’ Her story ‘Checkpoint Charlie’ was selected for publication by Hardie Grant as part of the anthology. ‘Roots: Home is Who We Are.’ Her screenplay ‘One Arabian Night’ was shortlisted for the internationally acclaimed ‘Final Draft Big Break Writing Contest’.
Maha resides in the beachside west of Melbourne in her messy home. A lover of house music, average wine & funky fashion, each evening Maha takes the stage of her home, delivering a stellar performance playing ‘Mum’ to her spirited teenage daughter and rambunctious dog, Onion.
